Obasanjo Commends Abia Gov. for Repealing Pension Law, Calls it “Daylight Robbery

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has commended Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, for repealing the law that provided pensions for former governors and deputy governors in the state.

Obasanjo described the payment of such pensions as outrageous and akin to daylight robbery. He made these remarks during a visit to Otti’s country home in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of the state.

Obasanjo praised Otti for his courage in repealing the law and urged other governors to follow suit.

He emphasized the importance of good leadership and infrastructure development in the state, stating that with proper leadership and adequate infrastructure, Abia State and the South East region could achieve great heights.

In response, Otti assured Obasanjo that his administration was focused on infrastructural development, particularly in Aba, the commercial and industrial hub of the state.

Otti thanked Obasanjo for supporting the decision to repeal the pension law, emphasizing that leadership should prioritize serving the people rather than exploiting them.

The Abia State House of Assembly had recently repealed the law that provided pensions, security, medicals, cooks, and stewards for former governors and deputy governors in the state.

The bill for the repeal was sponsored by the Majority Leader and member for Arochukwu State Constituency, Mr. Okoro Uchenna Kalu.
