Nursing Student Killed Days Before Graduation, Roommate Charged with Murder

Houston, TX – Tamilore Odunsi, a 23-year-old nursing student originally from the United Kingdom, was found dead in her Houston apartment on April 26th, just days before her scheduled graduation. Police have charged her roommate, Chester Lamar Grant, 40, with her murder.

According to the Houston Police Department, officers conducted a welfare check at Odunsi’s residence after observing blood on the back patio. Upon entering the apartment, they discovered Odunsi with multiple stab wounds and Grant with at least one. Odunsi was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators have revealed that an argument between Odunsi and Grant regarding their pet cats occurred in the days leading up to the alleged murder. Authorities believe this dispute escalated, resulting in Grant allegedly stabbing Odunsi.

Following the incident, Grant reportedly attempted to take his own life by inflicting multiple stab wounds upon himself. He was hospitalized in critical condition until May 3rd, at which point he was booked into jail and formally charged with murder. He is scheduled to appear in court today, Monday, May 5th.

Odunsi had moved to the United States to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse. She documented her experiences as an international student on her popular TikTok account, @tamidollars, where she amassed over 30,000 followers by sharing study tips and insights into her life.

Her final TikTok post, made just five days before her death, expressed her excitement about her upcoming graduation and future plans.

Friends and family have described Odunsi as a “beautiful soul, full of light, ambition and kindness.” A GoFundMe campaign was launched to help return her body to her family in the U.K. and cover funeral expenses. The fundraiser has exceeded its initial goal, highlighting the profound impact Odunsi had on those around her.
