NSCDC Busts Fake NGO Trafficking Ring, Rescues 15 Minors, Arrests Buyers

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has rescued 15 minors trafficked and sold for N2 million each by a fake official of the National Council of Child Rights Advocate.

The victims, aged between 5 and 14, were lured from their families in Nasarawa State with promises of free education under a “Back to School Project.”

A Syndicate Uncovered

ValidViewNetwork gathered that the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has rescued 15 minors trafficked and sold for N2 million each by a fake official of a civil society organisation, the National Council of Child Rights Advocate.

The victims, aged between 5 and 14, were lured from their families in Kama Madaki and Gudindi Mada communities, Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

How the Syndicate Operated

The NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Babawale Afolabi, said at a news briefing on Friday at the NSCDC Headquarters in Abuja that a member of a syndicate represented himself as an official of the National Council of Child Rights Advocate to the parents of the children, deceiving them to hand over their children to him.

“Under the guise of operating an NGO and orphanage programme called the Back to School Project, he lured willing, less privileged parents into releasing their children with promises of free education,” Afolabi said.

The Rescue Operation

The rescue was executed by the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad (CG’s SIS) headed by Commander Dandaura Appollos.

“Through advanced field tracking, technical intelligence and multi-state tactical sweeps, operatives of the CG’s SIS tracked down the buyers who were from different locations in the country,” Afolabi said.

According to him, three of the victims were rescued in Anambra, Imo and Enugu respectively, while 12 others were rescued in a coordinated operation across the eastern transit routes.

Arrests Made

Afolabi further said that three buyers: one male and two female, had been apprehended in connection with the case. He said that the NSCDC has a zero-tolerance policy against crime and human trafficking.

“Upon the corps completion of its investigation, all the suspects found culpable would be prosecuted,” Afolabi said.

A Lesson for Nigerian Youths

This is a stark reminder that the most vulnerable among us are often the targets of the most heartless criminals.

The traffickers preyed on poverty, promising education but delivering exploitation.

The same politicians who speak of protecting children will never allow their own children to be trafficked. Their children are protected.

For young Nigerians, the lesson is clear: protect the vulnerable. The children who were trafficked were taken from poor families who only wanted a better future for them.
