The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has officially launched a Nationwide Enlightenment Campaign in Yobe State, marked by a press conference held in Damaturu on August 29, 2025. The campaign was flagged off by NOA Director General Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, represented by the Director of Planning, Research and Strategy, Alhaji Nuru Yusuf Kobi.
This two-week nationwide campaign focuses on five critical thematic areas essential to Nigeria’s unity and development:
- Government Policies, Programmes and Activities — creating awareness about government initiatives and their benefits to citizens.
- Flood Mitigation and Disaster Preparedness — empowering communities with knowledge on early warnings, safety measures, and flood risk management.
- National Security Awareness — promoting vigilance, timely intelligence sharing, and enhanced cooperation between citizens and security agencies.
- National Values Re-Orientation for Students and Youth — fostering patriotism, civic responsibility, ethical conduct, and discipline among young Nigerians.
- The Nigerian Identity Project and National Symbols — strengthening national pride and respect for the country’s flag, anthem, currency, and other symbols of unity.
NOA emphasized the indispensable role of the media, civil society, traditional and religious leaders in shaping positive public opinion, building trust between government and citizens, and promoting unity across Nigeria’s diverse ethnic and religious groups.

Starting in Yobe State, the campaign will reach all 17 local government areas through school visits, town hall meetings, roadshows, and community engagements. The initiative also includes distribution of educational materials in over 70 local languages and partnerships with more than 200 broadcast stations nationwide.
The campaign aims to bridge awareness gaps, address harmful practices, and counter misinformation that could undermine national progress. NOA is deploying over 4,000 personnel nationwide to educate citizens on these thematic areas, encouraging Nigerians to actively participate for peace, unity, and sustainable development.

Members of the public are urged to take ownership of this historic mobilization towards a more secure, united, and prosperous Nigeria.
This extensive campaign reflects NOA’s commitment to nation-building and reaffirms the agency’s strategic role in mobilizing citizens for inclusive national development and cohesion .
