Nigerians Crowdfund for Woman Who Turned to Prostitution for Surgery

Nigerians have come together to support a 26-year-old woman who turned to prostitution out of desperation to fund her goitre surgery.

Her story gained attention after she appeared in a viral video interview conducted by street comedian Comicmiss2.

In the video, the woman, whose name is unknown, shared her struggle with health issues, particularly a visible swelling in her throat, which prompted her to seek funds for surgery since November 2023. She emphasized that she resorted to prostitution solely to cover the medical expenses, not for pleasure.

Expressing her determination to stop engaging in prostitution once she raises the necessary funds, she revealed that she had saved about 150,000 Naira towards the surgery, which was estimated to cost around 700,000 Naira.

Moved by her plight, Nigerians mobilized on social media platforms, prompted by Comicmiss2’s appeal, to raise funds for her surgery.

Despite raising only 36,000 Naira initially, efforts to contact the woman directly to offer financial support were challenging due to communication issues.

In response, Comicmiss2 shared her personal account details to facilitate donations, expressing her commitment to helping the woman undergo the needed surgery, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
