A celebratory mood quickly spiraled into a devastating ordeal for a Nigerian woman residing in China, who has been forced out of her home after a brief act of hospitality backfired dramatically.
The unnamed woman broke down in uncontrollable tears while recounting how a simple favor extended to an acquaintance landed her on the wrong side of strict local housing and immigration laws.
According to her account, the nightmare began shortly after she hosted a gathering to mark her birthday with friends. Later that evening, one of the guests reached out with a distressing plea, claiming he had lost touch with his roommate and desperately needed a temporary place to crash for the night. Trusting the connection, she agreed to let him stay.
However, the temporary shelter turned into a high-stakes security scene just hours later. Law enforcement officers descended on her building, utilizing advanced surveillance tracking systems that allegedly traced the fugitive directly to her doorstep.
Realizing the police had arrived, the panicked guest frantically urged her not to open the door, confessing that he had heavily overstayed his visa and was actively sought by local authorities. Despite her hesitation, security personnel forced their way into the apartment and swiftly apprehended him.
While authorities cleared her of direct complicity in the immigration violation—sparing her from immediate visa revocation—the collateral damage to her living situation was absolute. Under stringent local regulations regarding undocumented individuals, the apartment was promptly sealed off, leaving her landlord unable to lease it out.
The embattled expatriate lamented that she lost her hefty two-month security deposit alongside the rent she had recently paid. Left picking up the pieces, she has issued a public warning to fellow nationals and foreigners living abroad, urging extreme caution regarding who they accommodate, even for a few hours.
