Prominent Afenifere chieftain, Dr Femi Okurounmu has described the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi as God’s answer to prayers of Nigerians, warning that the country stands to lose much more if he is not elected president.
Dr Okurounmu stated this on Sunday during a monthly online discourse programme “Boiling Point” where he addressed the current state of Nigeria and the gathering political storm.
The one time Senator expressed optimism in the unity of Nigeria and in the LP emerging as the 3rd force to snatch power from the two dominant political parties.
He noted that for Nigeria to be ‘liberated’, the youths will need to mobilize and gather themselves into a formidable force to take power from ‘corrupt, selfish and oppressive elders’.
“Nigerians will only liberate themselves when the youths gather themselves. I have always spoken that the future belongs to the youths, that until the youths gather themselves and mobilize themselves and form themselves into a formidable force to take power from these elders, these corrupt elders, these selfish elders, from these oppressive elders that there will be no future for Nigeria.”
“Nigerians have experienced sufferings in the last 8 years such that they have never experienced before, maybe this has now prompted the youths to realize that they must take the future into their own hands.”
“I am optimistic for Nigeria, that Nigeria can still remain one and that is why I am optimistic that this 3rd force around Obi will come out fine, because if it fails, it is Nigeria that is going to fail not this youths. The youths may fail to get Obi elected, people who are called Obidient may fail to get Obi elected, but the people who will suffer the failure are the Nigerians, Nigeria itself will suffer the failure if Obi fails.”
“It is God himself who has heard the prayers of Nigerians for change, it is God himself who has heard the prayers of Nigerians for liberation that has brought up Obi and offered Obi to Nigerians.”
The 84 year old elder statesman also expressed the believe that the older generation of leaders have ruined the country.
“It is clear that old people ruined Nigeria, it is the old people, people of my generation that ruined Nigeria”, Okurounmu said.
