Nigeria Police Repatriate Turkish Fraud Convict

The Nigeria Police Force, leveraging the expertise of its INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abuja, has successfully apprehended and repatriated a 61-year-old Turkish national, Acar Huseyin, who fled Turkey to evade a lengthy prison sentence for fraud. Convicted by the Istanbul Anadolu High Criminal Court earlier this year, Huseyin was sentenced to 14 years, 8 months, and 10 days imprisonment but escaped custody by traveling through the Middle East before entering Nigeria.

Following the issuance of a Red Notice by INTERPOL’s Ankara bureau in July 2025, Nigerian authorities initiated a discreet intelligence-driven operation that culminated in the arrest of Huseyin in Abuja. After completing all necessary extradition procedures in collaboration with Turkish officials and international partners, Huseyin was flown back to Istanbul to serve the remainder of his sentence.

Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, applauded the professionalism displayed by the INTERPOL unit and reiterated Nigeria’s firm stance against harboring fugitives or escaped convicts. He emphasized the Nigeria Police Force’s ongoing commitment to fulfilling international obligations, enhancing police cooperation across borders, and combating transnational crime effectively.
