
Vice President Kashim Shettima of Nigeria attended the high-level meeting at the United Nations General Assembly Hall in New York to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the United Nations General Assembly. Representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Shettima delivered a three-minute address celebrating the United Nations’ longstanding commitment to peace, protection of human dignity, and advancement of global development goals. The event featured participation from various world leaders and highlighted the UN’s legacy of promoting multilateral cooperation amid contemporary global challenges.

Shettima’s participation aligns with Nigeria’s active role at the UN, including plans to announce new climate commitments under the Paris Agreement and push for Africa’s greater representation in the UN Security Council. Alongside other Nigerian officials, Shettima underscored the importance of the UN’s mission in fostering global peace and development, reinforcing Nigeria’s engagement on key international issues such as taxation reforms, peacekeeping, and climate action.
