Post-Brexit Hurdle Ahead
British passport holders traveling to popular European hotspots like Spain, France, and Italy face stricter entry requirements under the upcoming European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS).
When the digital pre-screening system rolls out, UK tourists and other visa-exempt nationals must secure electronic travel authorization prior to visiting approximately 30 European countries. While initial projections estimated the application fee at 7 euros, the European Commission confirmed that the cost has nearly tripled to 20 euros per adult traveller.
The digital pass remains valid for up to three years, or until the holder’s passport expires, and permits multiple short-term visits of up to 90 days within any 180-day window. Travelers under 18 or over 70 are exempt from the fee, though they must still complete the application process.
Failing to secure a valid ETIAS or submitting incorrect passport information risks immediate entry denial at the border. Officials advise holidaymakers to monitor official EU portals for the exact launch date and avoid third-party agency scams.
