Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has claimed there are “serious suspicions” that foreign countries spent large sums of money to influence the results of last week’s parliamentary elections, hours after Israel’s Central Elections Committee certified the outcome.

The allegation was made in a recorded statement on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, but the Prime Minister did not name any countries or present evidence to substantiate the claim, ValidViewNetwork reports.

THE ALLEGATION

“There are serious suspicions of foreign countries intervening with enormous sums of money to influence the election results in the State of Israel,” Netanyahu said, according to the Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth .

Netanyahu said Central Elections Committee Chairman Noam Sohlberg had instructed the Shin Bet domestic security agency to investigate and called for any obstacles to the inquiry to be removed .

“We must get to the full truth, without a cover-up and without delay,” he said.

THE CONTRADICTION

The allegation was quickly complicated by the Central Elections Committee’s own findings. The committee said earlier Wednesday that it had conducted an audit of 9,069 polling stations following complaints, but had found no irregularities indicating that the integrity of the vote had been compromised or the results altered.

Separately, the Shin Bet told the committee that it needed to investigate further to establish the scale of the suspected foreign funding and influence efforts .

THE ARAB-ISRAELI RESPONSE

The largest Arab-Israeli bloc, the Joint List, denounced the allegations as “political persecution” .

“The targeting of Ayman Odeh is political persecution, and we will not allow the Arab public’s vote to be delegitimised,” the coalition said in a statement . “Netanyahu is clinging to power and refusing to acknowledge the will of Arab citizens who voted overwhelmingly against his government,” it added .

Reports quoting unnamed officials said the Shin Bet was investigating whether Odeh, an outgoing lawmaker and former leader of the Joint List, had received hundreds of thousands of shekels—roughly $100,000—from an unspecified foreign entity .

QATAR’S REBUTTAL

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry issued an unusually direct response to the allegations.

“We reject the accusations by certain Israeli politicians and their media contacts, who have launched yet another disinformation campaign to drag Qatar into Israel’s political disputes following this week’s elections,” the ministry said.

“They accuse us of buying Netanyahu, the Left, and now the Arab vote. If all these claims were believed, Qatar would apparently own the entire State of Israel,” it added .

WHY IT MATTERS

Netanyahu’s allegation is a familiar move from a leader who has lost an election and is looking for someone to blame.

He did not name the countries. He did not present evidence. He pointed to “serious suspicions” and demanded an investigation.

The Central Elections Committee, the body responsible for certifying the vote, found no irregularities.

The Shin Bet, the agency now tasked with investigating, had earlier told the committee that it needed to look further.

The Arab-Israeli bloc, which turned out in record numbers, sees the investigation as an attempt to delegitimise their votes.

Qatar sees it as a disinformation campaign.

And the Israeli public, already divided, is left to wonder whether the Prime Minister is seeking the truth or seeking revenge.

The investigation has begun. The allegations remain unproven. And Netanyahu, for now, has not conceded. ValidViewNetwork reports.
