The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has recorded a major breakthrough in its offensive against drug trafficking, intercepting a China-bound businessman at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) and dismantling several production facilities across the country.
The “Jumbo” Catch in Kano
On Saturday, January 31, 2026, 62-year-old Nwabueze Nicholas Izueke was intercepted during the outward clearance of passengers for an Ethiopian Airlines flight to China. Following a positive body scan, Izueke was placed under observation, where he eventually excreted 95 jumbo-sized wraps of cocaine weighing 1.589 kilograms.

The suspect, who claims to deal in auto parts in Lagos, confessed to the crime, stating he sought to fund the completion of his country home in Iwollo, Enugu State.
Meth in Yogurt and Speakers
The Agency’s vigilance also thwarted creative smuggling attempts involving everyday consumer goods:
- The Yogurt Trail: In Taraba State, 32-year-old Yusuf Abubakar was arrested on February 6 with 1.8kg of methamphetamine concealed inside Hollandia Yogurt packs destined for Adamawa.
- The Speaker Stash: In Abuja and Kaduna, four suspects were apprehended after attempting to smuggle meth hidden inside Mp3 speakers sent via commercial bus.
”Colos” Factory and Fuel Tanker Seizures
In a significant blow to local synthetic drug production, operatives raided a facility in the Badeku area of Ibadan on February 7. The raid led to the arrest of Jimoh Nurudeen, a suspected kingpin, and the recovery of precursor chemicals used to produce “Colorado” (synthetic cannabis), alongside over ₦7.4 million in cash and luxury vehicles.

Further north, in Kwara State, a fuel tanker traveling from Lagos to Maiduguri was intercepted. Instead of just petrol, officers discovered 395,400 capsules of tramadol hidden within the vehicle’s compartments.
Nationwide Impact
The week-long operations resulted in massive seizures across several states:
- FCT: 627.7kg of “Skunk” recovered from a warehouse in Kubwa.
- Oyo: Over 128,000 pills of tramadol and pentazocine injections seized at Agbeni Market.
- Lagos: 31 wraps of cocaine seized from a suspect arriving by boat from Cote D’Ivoire.
- Imo & Ondo: Over 600kg of cannabis recovered in separate raids.
Advocacy and Commendation
Beyond enforcement, the NDLEA continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) initiative, conducting sensitization lectures in schools across Anambra, Oyo, and Lagos.

Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), Chairman/CEO of the NDLEA, commended the officers for their professionalism. He urged the various commands to remain relentless in their dual mission of reducing both the supply of and demand for illicit substances in Nigeria.
