The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has filed a forfeiture suit against Proxy Nightclub, a Lagos nightclub owned by socialite Mike Nwogu, popularly known as Pretty Mike, following a raid of a drug-themed party held there. The agency arrested over 100 attendees, including Pretty Mike and his manager, after intelligence revealed the organizers circulated flyers inviting people to the illicit event. Undercover operatives infiltrated the party and monitored activities before storming the club between 11 p.m. on Saturday, October 25, and 3 a.m. on Sunday, October 26.
NDLEA recovered 384.886 kilograms of Canadian Loud cannabis and other drugs from the club’s storage. Chairman Buba Marwa stated the forfeiture suit is a strong message to nightlife operators nationwide that properties used for drug-related activities risk seizure. He warned that the agency will not tolerate a culture of impunity in Nigeria’s entertainment sector and that property owners harboring such illegal events will face similar actions.
Marwa highlighted the NDLEA’s achievements over the past 30 months, including over 45,000 arrests, seizure of more than 8.5 million kilograms of illicit drugs, over 9,200 convictions, counseling and rehabilitation of more than 26,600 drug users, and nearly 10,000 drug abuse awareness campaigns nationwide.
The NDLEA strongly cautioned nightclub owners and facility managers against allowing drug parties in their venues, emphasizing that hosting or promoting drug-related events is a criminal offense punishable by forfeiture of assets and prosecution of offenders .
