….. Requests for sanction of Officers and end to invasion of campuses.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) which is the umbrella body for all Nigeria students has condemned the invasion of the campus of the Federal College of Forestry, Jericho , Ibadan by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission ( EFCC).

In series of videos that have gone viral on several social media platforms, the campus was thrown into confusion as the operatives of EFCC stormed the campus while sporadic gunshots rented the air and the students scampered for safety.

One of the videos sighted by ValidViewNetwork showed a student who was allegedly shot in the leg by the operatives.

In a swift reaction, NANS has condemned the invasion of the campus while calling for a full scale investigation into the shooting on the campus by the operatives of EFCC.

NANS in a statement signed by Comrade Akinteye Babatunde Afeez (BABTEE), Vice President External Affairs, NANS NHQ described the invasion as an action that is condemnable.

The statement read : “We are appalled and deeply disturbed by the recent and utterly condemnable display of uncoordinated and violent activities by officers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at the Federal College of Forestry, Ibadan.

The brutal and unjustified shooting of innocent and unarmed students is a blatant violation of their fundamental human rights and a grave affront to the sanctity of academic environments across the country”

The Students umbrella body has called out the Chairman of EFCC to ensure that the officers who carried out the invasion of the campus are appropriately sanctioned to serve as a deterrent to others and prevent a reoccurrence in the future.

“We hereby vehemently condemn this barbaric act and demand that the Chairman of the EFCC, without delay, produce the officers responsible for this deplorable act.

It is imperative that these officers are held accountable for their actions, and we insist that they face the full wrath of the law for their unwarranted and reckless use of force against defenseless students”

NANS in the statement issued a warning to the operatives of EFCC to desist from invading the campuses of students across the nation.

“Furthermore, we issue a stern warning to the officers of the EFCC to desist from any further uncoordinated activities within the premises of educational institutions (our various campuses).

We will not tolerate any infringement on the safety and security of our students, and any further transgression will be met with the strongest possible response from the Nigerian student community.

In light of these recent events, we hereby put the EFCC on notice that if swift and decisive action is not taken to address this grievous matter, we will not hesitate to mobilize Nigerian students across the federation for a total picketing of the EFCC headquarters in Ibadan.

This action will serve as a testament to our unwavering commitment to ensuring that justice is served and that the safety and well-being of our students are guaranteed.
Consequently, in solidarity, the leadership of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) National Headquarters stand with the zonal leadership of Southwest (NANS Zone D) to ensure justice is served in no distant time.

Meanwhile, the leadership of NANS Zone D covering South West under which the Federal College of Forestry falls has declared a show down with EFCC in Oyo State.

According to Comrade Owolewa Taiwo, Deputy Coordinator, NANS Southwest, the Union is on alert for rally calling for justice on the invasion of EFCC at Federal College of Forestry, Ibadan.

In utter condemnation of EFCC, NANS Zone D posited that the actions of the operatives of EFCC will not be tolerated.

“In the wake of the abhorrent incident at the Federal College of Forestry, Ibadan, where the safety and dignity of our students were egregiously compromised by officers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Southwest (ZONE D) wishes to express its unequivocal condemnation. This flagrant disregard for the welfare of our students is utterly deplorable and cannot be tolerated.

To drive home it’s displeasure with EFCC, NANS Zone says it is ready for rally at Mokola.

“We hereby serve notice of our intention to peacefully manifest our dissatisfaction and rally for justice on the streets of Mokola, Oyo State.”

“In our unwavering commitment to the welfare of our students, the Zonal Secretariat of NANS SOUTHWEST shall be relocated to Oyo State effective immediately, a move symbolic of our resolve. This relocation will endure until our legitimate demands are addressed satisfactorily. We stand firm on our belief that justice delayed is justice denied, and we will not rest until our call for immediate rectification of this gross injustice is heeded”, ValidViewNetwork reports.
