President Yoweri Museveni hosted Hollywood actor and R&B singer Tyrese Gibson at State House Entebbe, marking a high-profile push to leverage global pop culture for Uganda’s creative economy and agricultural tourism.
Gibson, globally recognized as Roman Pearce in the Fast & Furious franchise, is on a multi-day visit centered on the Explore Uganda Coffee Tourism campaign. The initiative—spearheaded by the Uganda Tourism Board, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Africa Coffee Park—seeks to merge agricultural value chains with international cultural diplomacy.
Key Highlights of the Visit:
- State House Summit: President Museveni and Gibson engaged in formal discussions covering the growth of the creative arts, heritage ties between Africa and African-Americans, and economic transformation through the services sector.
- Coffee Value Chain: Moving beyond traditional tourism, Gibson’s itinerary includes inspecting local farming initiatives, participating in a coffee-tree planting drive, and touring the Africa Coffee Park in Ntungamo District.
- Ambitious Outlook: Expressing deep enthusiasm for local enterprise, Gibson hinted at future high-impact investment possibilities, urging stakeholders to embrace bold visions for Uganda’s global market presence.
- Wider Itinerary: Beyond agricultural hubs, the Hollywood star’s schedule features cultural excursions, including a visit to the historic Source of the Nile in Jinja.
Government strategists hope that utilizing high-profile international figures will continue to draw lucrative global attention to Uganda’s unique blend of cultural heritage, eco-tourism, and premium export commodities.
