Abeokuta, Ogun State – A Nigerian mother is making headlines today after she vehemently resisted attempts by her estranged husband and his family to claim their 10-year-old daughter, whom he allegedly abandoned a decade ago. The dramatic confrontation, which the mother, known on TikTok as @flakkystores, shared online, has ignited a firestorm of reactions across social media.
The mother’s account details a harrowing past marred by domestic violence. She claims her husband subjected her to brutal beatings, even while she was pregnant. “I started seeing birth water since I was five months pregnant because of everyday beating. Any misunderstanding, he don kick my stomach. Only God and hospital saved me and my husband’s life,” she narrated.
The abuse reportedly continued after the birth of their child. Just three weeks postpartum, a severe beating over a minor disagreement forced her to flee the marriage, taking her infant daughter with her. For the past ten years, she asserts, neither her husband nor his family offered any financial or emotional support, nor did they inquire about her or the child’s well-being.
The shocking confrontation occurred recently when the husband, accompanied by his family, arrived at her home, demanding custody of the now 10-year-old girl. The mother stood her ground, refusing to hand over her daughter.
She recounted how some of the family members, including a man identified as an “American soldier,” threatened to beat her. “Nobody fit collect mad woman pikin,” she declared defiantly, warning the “Adebanjo’s family” to stay away from her and her daughter. She also referenced a previous incident at their daughter’s naming ceremony where she was allegedly beaten and rushed to the hospital.
The emotional video has resonated deeply with social media users, many of whom shared similar experiences of abandonment and the challenges of single parenthood. Comments poured in, with individuals expressing solidarity with the mother and condemning the husband’s actions.
One user, @KALIS COLLECTION, shared, “Na so I dey wait my ex too,my kids now 18yr and 16yrs both in d university now, werey no no how I take dey pay D BELLS university money.” Another, @omotanwa_ stichez, commented, “Na so my daddy baby came and said he wanted to do DNA test after 11years thank God na postive the result be and i be officer now with higher rank.”
The incident highlights the ongoing struggles faced by many single mothers in Nigeria and sparks crucial conversations about paternal responsibility, domestic violence, and child custody rights. As of press time, further details regarding potential legal actions or official interventions are not yet available.
