The Ogun State Police Command has reportedly taken into custody a TikTok creator known as Mirabel following allegations that she fabricated a harrowing story of sexual assault and a suicide attempt to boost her social media following.
A Tale of Trauma Under Scrutiny
The controversy began when Mirabel shared a series of emotional videos claiming she was assaulted by a stranger who forced his way into her apartment while she was under the influence of alcohol. In her detailed account, she alleged the assailant gagged her, physically harmed her with a blade, and later mocked her via direct message. She further claimed to have ingested the lethal pesticide, Sniper, in an attempt to end her life due to the trauma.
The story sparked immediate national outrage, drawing the attention of high-profile activists, NGOs, and celebrities like the singer Simi. The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) initially intervened, facilitating her medical treatment before transferring the case to Ogun State authorities, where the incident allegedly occurred.

Inconsistencies and Neighbor Testimonies
As the story gained millions of views, the narrative began to unravel. Neighbors in her compound challenged her version of events, noting that no distress calls were heard and that Mirabel appeared physically fine on the morning she claimed to be hospitalized.
“We were home and nothing of such happened,” one neighbor stated, further alleging that Mirabel had previously solicited donations for her mother’s funeral—despite her mother having passed away months prior. Observers also noted that Mirabel added “DM FOR ADVERTS” to her profile bio shortly after her follower count surged from 7,000 to over 60,000.

Police Intervention and Arrest
Following a forensic investigation, the Ogun State Police Command found significant inconsistencies in Mirabel’s claims. Medical examinations reportedly found no evidence of forced penetration or the chemical ingestion she described. Consequently, she was detained on charges of providing false information and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
In the wake of her arrest, friends who had previously championed her cause on social media have begun deleting their posts. One former supporter remarked, “It’s not my fault for believing my friend… Mirabel chose to abuse that empathy”.
While authorities have yet to release a final statement, the case serves as a cautionary tale regarding the complexities of social media-driven justice and the legal consequences of fabricating criminal allegations.
