A midnight fire outbreak has destroyed a popular hotel and several shops in Ore, the headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, leaving traders counting their losses.
The inferno, which reportedly started on Friday, triggered panic among residents and business owners in the bustling commercial community.
Although the cause of the fire had yet to be determined at the time of filing this report, eyewitnesses said the flames spread rapidly, consuming goods and property worth millions of naira.
When our ValidViewNetwork visited the scene, affected shop owners were seen lamenting the destruction, while sympathizers gathered to assess the extent of the damage and offer support to victims.
Some residents attributed the severity of the incident to the presence of highly flammable materials stored in some of the affected shops.
One of the affected traders, identified simply as Star Boy, described the incident as devastating, noting that many business owners had lost their sources of livelihood.
“We were shocked when we heard people shouting about the fire this morning. Before help could come, many shops had already been destroyed,” he said.
Firefighters were said to have responded promptly and worked to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby buildings and other business premises.
Their swift intervention helped contain the fire and averted what residents feared could have become a major disaster in the densely populated commercial area.
