LAGOS — The stage is set for an epic showdown at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, as domestic heavyweights MFM Women Basketball Team and First Bank lock horns in the final of the 2026 NBBF/Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball League.
Both Atlantic Conference powerhouses punched their tickets to the championship game following nail-biting semifinal victories on Friday. First Bank edged past tournament debutants ASO SKY Queens in a closely contested 61-57 battle, while MFM narrowly fended off a resilient Nigeria Customs side with a 64-61 victory.
The high-stakes final brings together two of the country’s most decorated basketball institutions. Nine-time champions First Bank are aiming to reach a historic milestone by capturing their 10th league title. Standing in their way is an ambitious MFM squad eager to claim a third crown, having previously secured back-to-back championships in the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
Defending champions Dolphins failed to reach the Final Eight after a challenging campaign in the Atlantic Conference, leaving the path clear for a new chapter in the nation’s premier women’s basketball competition.
Action on the final day begins with the third-place playoff between Nigeria Customs and ASO SKY Queens at 2:00 PM, followed immediately by the grand finale at 4:00 PM.
