In a remarkable display of ingenuity and technical skill, final-year students from the Department of Mechatronics Engineering at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) held the 3rd Annual Final-Year Project Exhibition, showcasing innovative solutions aimed at tackling real-world challenges.
The exhibition featured a wide array of prototypes integrating advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotics, and the Internet of Things (IoT). Key projects addressed critical national issues across agriculture, energy, communication, and healthcare sectors.

Highlights included AI-powered drones designed for precision farming, capable of monitoring crop health, optimizing pesticide application, and improving yield predictions through real-time data analysis.
Autonomous drones for mail delivery, smart energy systems enhancing power efficiency, facial recognition attendance systems, IoT-enabled robotic arms controlled by hand gestures, assistive devices for the visually impaired, and smart water purification systems with IoT monitoring also drew significant attention.
The showcase underscored the department’s dedication to fostering innovation aligned with Sustainable Development Goals, particularly zero hunger, quality education, industry innovation, sustainable communities, and responsible consumption.

Engr. Samuel Owoeye, Head of the Mechatronics Engineering Department, praised the students’ creativity, emphasizing the transformative potential of youth-led innovation for a sustainable and technologically advanced future.
The event attracted faculty, industry experts, and students, sparking dialogue on collaboration, entrepreneurship, and commercialising Nigerian technological innovations. The exhibition continues to serve as a vital platform for nurturing visionary talents set to reshape Nigeria’s tech landscape.
