Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo and President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), has publicly called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Barrister Festus Keyamo, and the Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Chris Najomo, to show mercy and lift the six-month flight ban imposed on Fuji music legend Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, also known as KWAM 1.
The ban followed an incident on August 5, 2025, at Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, involving KWAM 1 and staff of ValueJet Airlines. The altercation occurred when the musician attempted to board a ValueJet flight to Lagos carrying a flask containing an unidentified liquid, which security personnel suspected to be alcohol. Despite repeated warnings from aviation security and the flight captain, KWAM 1 refused to comply with the inspection procedures, causing disruption and delaying the flight.
MC Oluomo described KWAM 1’s conduct as a momentary lapse, likening the musician to the biblical prodigal son who has acknowledged his mistakes, apologized sincerely, and is willing to make amends. In a heartfelt plea posted on his Instagram page, MC Oluomo urged the authorities to temper justice with mercy, emphasizing KWAM 1’s 50-year contribution to Nigerian music and the promotion of Yoruba culture worldwide.
He also extended apologies on behalf of KWAM 1 to the CEO of ValueJet, Mr. Kunle Soname, the airline staff, the pilot involved, Captain Oluranti Ogoyi, and the general public. MC Oluomo’s appeal underscores the importance of forgiveness and compassion, hoping that the ban could be lifted to preserve KWAM 1’s legacy and uphold humanity’s values.
KWAM 1 himself has expressed regret over the incident and denied allegations that the flask contained alcohol, stating that it held only water carried on medical advice due to chronic dehydration. The Minister of Aviation and NCAA have maintained a firm stance on the incident, warning of sanctions and upholding strict aviation security protocols.
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority also suspended the licenses of the involved ValueJet pilots pending investigation. The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) condemned the disruption while affirming its commitment to security and safety in all airports.
MC Oluomo’s appeal highlights a call for clemency and reconciliation between the Fuji music icon and aviation authorities, hoping this incident will be resolved with understanding and mercy, balancing enforcement with compassion for a national cultural figure.
This story remains developing as investigations and discussions continue between KWAM 1, aviation authorities, and government officials.
