Marital Peace Meeting Turns Bloody as Butcher Hacks 25-Year-Old Wife to Death in Ekiti

​What was supposed to be a final resolution to a troubled home ended in gruesome tragedy on Wednesday in Ado Ekiti, as a local meat seller, Sodiq Ibrahim—popularly known as Alfa Eleran—allegedly hacked his 25-year-old wife, Kehinde Onizeokaraga, to death with a machete.

​The incident, which has thrown the Ebira community and residents of the Dallimore area into mourning, occurred during a peace-making session hosted by family acquaintances.

​According to family sources, the young couple—both natives of Kogi State—had been battling persistent marital crises. The tension had recently forced Kehinde to pack out of her husband’s house, with firm plans to relocate out of Ado Ekiti and permanently dissolve the union due to alleged domestic abuse and safety concerns.

​Trouble began when Kehinde, who was preparing to leave town, received an urgent invitation to visit the residence of a mutual family acquaintance, identified as Lamidi, who was a friend of her late father. Unaware that it was a trap orchestrated to ambush her with reconciliation talks—or that her husband would be in attendance—she honoured the morning invitation.

​Minutes into the meeting, as grievances were being aired, an argument broke out. Witnesses recounted that a furious Sodiq suddenly pulled out a concealed machete and launched a brutal, sustained attack on his wife. The severity of the assault sent terrified mediators fleeing for safety in different directions.

​The assailant fled the scene immediately after the carnage, carting away the victim’s mobile phone, which grieving family members believe contains crucial evidence. Kehinde’s remains have since been evacuated and deposited in a morgue.

​Speaking on behalf of the distraught family, the victim’s cousin, Lawrence Yusuf, lamented the brutal manner of her death and demanded immediate intervention from security agencies.

​”We want Sodiq to be found and arrested. We want justice for Kehinde. Her parents are in pain and my family is in serious agony. She didn’t deserve this,” Yusuf cried out, while also alleging that some individuals connected to the meeting have been taken into police custody as investigations widen.

​Confirming the incident, the Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, stated that the Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, has ordered a full-scale manhunt and a rigorous investigation to ensure the fleeing butcher is tracked down and brought to justice.
