Management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, led by Rector Arc. Dr. ’Koye Jolaoso, visited the institution’s inaugural Registrar, Amb. Chief (Mrs.) Susan Aderonke Folarin, to mark her 81st birthday on January 7, 2026. The heartfelt courtesy call on January 6 highlighted her pioneering service from 1983 to 1991, when she established the administrative bedrock for the polytechnic’s enduring success. Dr. Jolaoso, MAPOLY’s first alumnus Rector, praised her as a foundational “seed” whose legacy now supports 80% of the current management and staff, all products of the institution.
Leadership Legacy
Amb. Folarin served two terms as Registrar during MAPOLY’s formative years, originally Ogun State Polytechnic, overcoming challenges like severe classroom overcrowding where students sat on windowsills. She recounted personally apologising to Mass Communication and Accountancy students, offering fee waivers for deferrals, yet they persisted with resilience, underscoring her emphasis on empathetic leadership. Her career extended to Permanent Secretary in Ogun State Civil Service, Chair of the Civil Service Commission, and Nigeria’s Ambassador to Spain, reflecting a lifetime of selfless public service.

Timeless Advice
The octogenarian urged current leaders to prioritise approachability, consultation, and selflessness, especially towards students who may become invaluable allies later. “Be friendly, even with students; let leaders always consult and work together,” she advised, blending hard work with faith drawn from her era’s sacrifices. She fondly called Dr. Jolaoso “a son,” expressing joy at his rise and invoking prayers for MAPOLY’s wisdom amid preparations for its 47th anniversary on January 31.
