Former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has broken his silence following reports that the club has been found guilty of 114 out of 115 Premier League financial charges, insisting that questions surrounding his legacy contract are “not my concern”.
Mancini, who famously guided the Citizens to their historic first Premier League title in 2012, finds himself indirectly tied to the center of the unprecedented legal storm. Among the core allegations leveled against the club is the claim that Manchester City maintained inaccurate financial records concerning manager and player payments across a nine-year stretch beginning in 2009—the exact year Mancini took over at the Etihad Stadium. Leaked documents previously suggested the Italian coach received a secondary consulting agreement alongside his standard salary.
Speaking from Turkey ahead of Italy’s UEFA Nations League fixture, the current Azzurri boss firmly distanced himself from the unfolding administrative crisis:
”It’s not an issue that concerns me. It’s nothing new because this matter has been discussed for the last four or five years,” Mancini told reporters. “Manchester City has not been found guilty [in my eyes], and the alleged double contract is not my concern. It’s their issue, not mine.”
The Road Ahead
An independent commission reportedly delivered its landmark verdict late last week, ruling against the English champions on 114 of the 115 counts. While the Premier League has yet to make an official public announcement or confirm potential penalties, the club faces severe potential sanctions ranging from massive financial fines and points deductions to the threat of relegation or stripped honors.
Manchester City have continuously denied any wrongdoing throughout the multi-year investigation. Club chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak remains defiant, expressing absolute confidence in proving the club’s innocence, with an official appeal expected as soon as formal penalties are handed down. Legal experts note that the reported verdict marks merely the opening phase of an extensive appeals process rather than a final conclusion.
