Sabajet Shuti, 31, has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 27 years for the murder of 27-year-old Lumturi Zeqja in Leytonstone, East London. The sentencing took place at Southwark Crown Court on June 27, 2025.
The fatal stabbing occurred on the evening of October 16, 2022, when Shuti and his brother Emirlion Shuti confronted Lumturi and his friend outside a café. After an altercation initiated by Emirlion, Sabajet Shuti produced a knife and stabbed Lumturi twice, causing his death, and also stabbed Lumturi’s friend, who survived after emergency surgery. Both brothers fled the scene immediately.
Sabajet Shuti fled the UK the day after the murder, shaving off his beard and traveling through Folkestone to France, eventually hiding in Sweden. He was arrested there on October 3, 2023, and extradited back to the UK for trial. His brother Emirlion was found guilty of affray and received a suspended 20-month sentence.
Detective Inspector Brett Hagen praised the international cooperation that led to Sabajet’s arrest and emphasized the unnecessary violence used in the attack, which caused immense suffering for the victim’s family and friends.
This case highlights the effectiveness of cross-border law enforcement collaboration in bringing fugitives to justice.
