Manchester City have been rocked by a seismic legal development after reportedly being found guilty on 114 of the 115 financial charges brought against them by the Premier League.

According to reports breaking from The Athletic and The Times, an independent commission communicated the landmark verdict to Premier League clubs, ruling against the reigning champions on all but one count following a complex, multi-year investigation.

The charges stem from a sweeping probe launched in February 2009 through 2018—initially triggered by leaked financial documents published by German magazine Der Spiegel in 2018. The allegations centered on Manchester City’s failure to provide accurate financial information regarding sponsorships, operating costs, and overall compliance with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), alongside accusations of failing to fully cooperate with league investigators.

While the verdict has been delivered, official sanctions have not yet been finalized or announced. Under Premier League rules, potential punishments range from heavy fines and severe points deductions to retrospective penalties that could theoretically place past titles under threat, or even result in expulsion from the competition.

Manchester City are expected to launch a vigorous appeal against the decision. In a statement addressing the ongoing developments, a club spokesperson emphasized that the legal process remains subject to strict confidentiality.

”The Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements to be completed, and subject to strict confidentiality,” the spokesperson noted, adding that the club’s stance remains aligned with its initial February 2003/2023 defenses, maintaining that they have “diligently respected due process”.

The Premier League has declined to comment on the leaked verdict while administrative and regulatory steps continue. As the football world awaits the final ruling on what punishments will be handed down, the unprecedented case marks a historic turning point for English club football.
