Linda Ikeji’s Meghan Markle Take Ignites Nigerian Twitter War

Some feuds begin with betrayal.

This one began with a throwaway line about a British royal an ocean away.

Blogger Linda Ikeji suggested online that Meghan Markle had reduced Prince Harry to “an ordinary commoner”, a comment that might have faded into the timeline scroll had Big Brother Naija’s Cross not decided otherwise.

The Clapback

Findings by ValidViewNetwork show that Cross took to social media to tell Ikeji, in his words, that she should “rest” from commenting on the ex-royals, a remark that quickly trended as fans piled in on both sides, some defending Ikeji’s right to an opinion, others accusing Cross of overreacting to harmless commentary.

When Local Gossip Meets Global Royalty

The episode is a small but telling case study in how Nigerian celebrity commentary now travels both ways, local voices weighing in on global royal drama, and international headlines occasionally becoming raw material for Nigerian influencer beef.

It is, in the end, a fight about nothing that will be forgotten by the next trending topic, which may be the most Nigerian-Twitter thing about it.
