LASU Probes Hostel Assault,Denounces Parent’s Actions in Viral Video

​Lagos State University has broken its silence over a widely circulated social media video capturing a parent physically assaulting a student, launching parallel internal disciplinary measures alongside active police investigations.

​The incident, which took place at a private off-campus accommodation, involved students attached to the institution’s College of Medicine in Ikeja. Online footage captured a middle-aged woman aggressively confronting and hitting a younger girl inside a room as onlookers attempted to intervene. Sources indicate the victim—identified as a 300-level nursing student—sustained an eye injury and received medical attention at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, while the suspect was subsequently taken into police custody.

​Reacting through an official statement signed by the Deputy Registrar and Coordinator for the Centre for Information and Public Relations, Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile, the university management unequivocally condemned the violence.

​”Any form of assault, intimidation, or harassment of students, staff, or visitors, whether within or outside the University premises, is unacceptable and goes against the core values upon which this institution was founded,” the statement read.

​While acknowledging that the altercation occurred beyond university grounds and was promptly reported to law enforcement agencies by the victim, LASU emphasized that internal panels have been convened to investigate the roles played by students connected to the confrontation.

​The university reminded its student body to remain “worthy in character and learning” and urged them to avoid volatile environments that compromise personal safety. At the same time, management appealed to parents and guardians to respect institutional boundaries, pursue peaceful channels for conflict resolution, and model integrity for their dependents.
