Lagos State Set for 47th Annual Conference of Forestry Association of Nigeria

Forestry Association of Nigeria, (FAN) is set to hold its 47th annual conference at Lagos State, from 24th to 29th November, 2025

The conference with the theme ‘Urban Forestry and Sustainable Development’ will be declared opened by the governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The conference will among other things discuss opportunities for wealth creation on Agroforestry system, traditional roles of forest and tree resources in rural economies, industrial forestry, value addition and sustainable development, Forest investment, financing and private participation and lots more.

Forestry Association of Nigeria, the umbrella body for all foresters in Nigeria is a non governmental organization aimed at promoting best forestry practices that would enhance environmental sustainability, economic and societal wellbeing.

In a statement made available by the National Secretary of the Association, Prof. Olukayode Ogunsanwo FFAN, the conference will witness a convergence of stakeholders from the academia, the industry, ministries and end users.

His words: “LAGOS 2025 which is the 47th Annual Conference of the Forestry Association of Nigeria is going to be one of the best if not the best in recent times. The state is ready and we are also ready”

“From the theme, it is evident that the conference is poised to set a new tone for forestry profession in Nigeria as Urbanisation is vast becoming a global trend which is inevitably desirable due to uncontrolled rural-urban drifts for better living and yearn for modern facilities. The United Nations had predicted that societal transformation from rural to urban will proceed by about 61% in 2025, particularly in developing Countries, especially those of Sub-Saharan Africa.”

However, the phenomenon comes with its global problems some of which are devastating on human existence and those of other desirable species in the ecosystem.”

Ogunsanwo further stated “ I can confirm to you that the National Organising Committee and the Local Organising Committee have mapped out plans and strategies to make all participants benefit maximally. Sessions for our stakeholders will also be available”.

Other highlights of the conference is the award of fellowship to distinguished members of the Association, Ogunsanwo hinted.
