The Lagos State Office of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has launched a Peer Review Mechanism (TPRM) Milestone Strategy Session to sharpen performance reporting and foster results-driven governance. Held on January 22, 2025, at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) in Ikeja, the event gathered office management, Technical Peer Review team members, and officials from the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget.
Leadership’s Vision
Permanent Secretary Mrs. Kaphayah Olayemi Sarumi opened the session, underscoring Lagos State’s dedication to transparency and measurable results under Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s agenda. She highlighted the need for reliable data, performance benchmarks, and robust systems to justify public spending, positioning the SDGs Office as a key hub for tracking state initiatives against local, national, and global SDG targets. “This goes beyond templates—it’s about building a reporting culture for evidence-based executive decisions,” Mrs. Sarumi emphasized, calling for professional input to close data gaps and boost report credibility.
Technical Insights
Presentations from Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget experts drove the discussions. Chief Planning Officer Mr. Kadiri detailed the Medium-Term Sector Strategy (MTSS) for syncing government aims with SDGs and setting evaluation benchmarks. Mr. Adegoke Ariyo, another Chief Planning Officer, outlined the Performance Management Review Framework, stressing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for monitoring projects and expenditure accountability. Head of Planning Unit Mr. Salu Yakubu wrapped up by pushing for actionable follow-through to refine the SDGs Office’s monitoring, evaluation, and reporting.

This initiative builds on prior efforts like Lagos’ Second Voluntary Local Review (VLR) of SDGs, reinforcing subnational accountability toward the 2030 Agenda.
