Lagos,Nigeria – Lagos will make history on October 4th and 5th, 2025, as the first African city to host the prestigious E1 Racing Championship. The announcement comes after Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu attended the ongoing E1 event in Monaco, witnessing first-hand the innovation and excitement of world-class electric powerboat racing.
Highlighting the significance of this milestone, Governor Sanwo-Olu described it as a testament to Lagos’s readiness to embrace clean energy, sustainability, and new approaches to marine transportation. “This is more than a sporting event,” he stated. “It is a unique opportunity to showcase our city’s culture, vibrancy, and potential to a global audience.”

The E1 Racing Championship is renowned for its focus on pioneering clean energy and sustainable marine technology, bringing together elite teams and international fanfare. Hosting the event in Lagos is expected to boost tourism, attract global attention, and reinforce the city’s commitment to innovation.
Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed gratitude to Afreximbank for supporting this vision, noting their strategic investment in Team Drogba and continued partnership. “Their belief in Lagos’s future is helping us open a new chapter—one that promises economic growth and elevated global status for our people.”

With preparations underway, Lagos is set to welcome visitors, share its dynamic energy, and write a new chapter as a hub for world-class sporting and sustainable innovation.
