In the Kosofe area of Lagos State, a tragic incident occurred when a driver lost control of a Toyota Hiace bus he was operating.
The bus, laden with pepper and perishable items, was reportedly speeding when it collided with two other vehicles and struck a pedestrian, resulting in the pedestrian’s death and injuring one passenger.
Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of Public Affairs of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), confirmed the incident, stating that it took place around 7 am on Tuesday.
He revealed that LASTMA officials promptly responded to the scene, apprehended the driver, and handed him over to police operatives at the Alapere division.
Taofiq provided further details, explaining that the bus, traveling at high speed, experienced brake failure, leading to the collision with the other vehicles and the tragic outcome for the pedestrian.

The injured passenger was promptly attended to and transferred to the care of the Lagos State Ambulance Service.
Additionally, LASTMA personnel rescued a trapped female passenger from one of the Volkswagen commercial buses involved in the collision.
The Alapere Police Station provided security support during the rescue efforts.
In response to the incident, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, urged pedestrians to utilize government-designated bus stops and cautioned drivers against over-speeding.
He emphasized the importance of conducting routine checks on vehicles, particularly the braking system, before commencing any journey.
This unfortunate event underscores the necessity for adherence to traffic regulations and safety measures to prevent avoidable accidents on Lagos roads.
