Lagos Energy Ministry Urges Staff Professionalism, Productivity

The Honourable Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr Biodun Ogunleye, alongside the Special Adviser to the Governor on Mineral Resources. Abiola Olowu and the Permanent Secretary, Eng. Abdulhafiz Toriola, who is overseeing the Ministry, has charged all members of staff of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) to recommit themselves to care-driven service, professionalism, and collective responsibility in the discharge of their duties.

The charge was given recently during a strategic staff engagement meeting held on Monday at the Folarin Coker Staff Clinic, Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, where leadership reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to people-centred governance and effective service delivery.

Addressing the members of staff, the Honourable Commissioner, Mr Biodun Ogunleye, emphasised that public service is built on productivity, humanity, and accountability. Ogunleye stressed that management and staff alike must see themselves as people managers, entrusted with responsibilities that directly impact the lives of Lagos residents.

The Special Adviser, Engr. Abiola Olowu reiterated the need for officers to believe in themselves, uphold integrity, and recognise the value of their individual and collective contributions to the Ministry’s success. According to him, institutional excellence can only be achieved when all staff operate with a shared sense of purpose and commitment.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Engr. Abdulhafiz Toriola reminded officers of the importance of understanding and adhering strictly to their departmental mandates, approved policies, and official procedures.

Toriola stressed that all official correspondence and actions must be guided by proper documentation, including memo numbers, dates, and approved themes, to ensure transparency and accountability.

The leadership collectively underscored that management exists to achieve defined goals and deliver results, not merely to occupy offices. Staff were encouraged to work collaboratively across departments and agencies to strengthen the electricity sector and improve service outcomes for residents.

The meeting also reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring that the electricity market functions fairly and efficiently, with safeguards in place to prevent exploitation or unfair treatment of electricity consumers in Lagos State. Core values highlighted during the engagement included self-motivation, professionalism, integrity, teamwork, discipline, respect, innovation, and effective time management. Officers were reminded of the importance of adhering to the Code of Conduct and maintaining high ethical standards at all times.

The management also outlined performance expectations, monthly targets, approval processes, and the need for timely escalation of operational challenges to ensure efficiency and responsiveness.

The meeting concluded with a call for renewed dedication, unity, and excellence across all cadres, as MEMR continues to play a pivotal role in driving sustainable energy development and improving the quality of life of Lagos State.
