Gunmen Slaughter Visionary Young Pharmacist and Staff in KZN Clinic Ambush!

​DURBAN — A wave of shock and profound grief has swept through the KwaZulu-Natal province after a brazen, cold-blooded gun attack claimed the lives of a visionary young pharmacist, her cashier, and a security guard at a newly established medical facility.

​The tragedy unfolded on Tuesday evening, May 19, 2026, when ruthless gunmen stormed the pharmacy located in the Inchanga area, extinguishing the life of Nomzila Madinane—a passionate healthcare entrepreneur who had opened the facility just days prior to bring essential medicine to an underserved rural community.

​A Fatal Ambush on a Dream of Service

​Madinane had identified a severe gap in the local infrastructure of KwaNyuswa, near Hillcrest, where elderly and vulnerable residents were routinely forced to travel exhausting, long distances just to access basic medication and clinical services. Motivated by a desire to uplift her people, she launched the pharmacy to provide localized, dignified healthcare.

​However, that dream was violently cut short. According to law enforcement reports, three heavily armed men suddenly stormed the premises during business hours and opened fire without warning.

​Madinane and her female cashier died instantly on the scene, trapped behind the counter amid shattered glass and scattered medical supplies. The facility’s security guard, who courageously attempted to intervene and protect the staff, was critically wounded during the crossfire. He was rushed to a nearby hospital by emergency medical services but tragically succumbed to his severe gunshot injuries a short while later.

​KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Police Spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda, confirmed that a massive manhunt has been launched to track down the fleeing perpetrators.

​“Inchanga police have opened three counts of murder following an incident in which two females and a male security guard were targeted by unknown shooters,” Netshiunda stated. “The two female victims were fatally shot on the premises, while the security guard sustained critical injuries and later passed away in the hospital. The motive for the attack is currently unknown, and seasoned detectives are working around the clock to determine if this was a botched robbery or a targeted hit.”
