In a grim and puzzling incident, Private Usman Alhaji, a Nigerian Army personnel assigned to Apapa, Lagos, was found dead in a bush within Twatagi village, Patigi Local Government Area, Kwara State, following a confrontation with a stick-wielding assailant. The incident reportedly took place on the evening of October 21, 2025.
According to security analyst and counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, Private Alhaji was travelling by motorcycle alongside a local resident, Muhammad Baba, when they encountered a man walking along the road carrying a stick. The man allegedly struck them as they passed, prompting Private Alhaji to dismount and pursue the attacker on foot. Unfortunately, the soldier never returned from the chase.
After waiting for hours without any sign of Private Alhaji, Muhammad Baba began searching the surrounding bush but failed to find him. The following afternoon, villagers discovered the soldier’s lifeless body deep within the bush. Police investigators who examined the scene confirmed that Private Alhaji had suffered a fatal stab wound to the neck.
The deceased’s body was subsequently released to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites. Meanwhile, security operatives have intensified efforts to trace and apprehend the attacker responsible for this mysterious and tragic event.
This unsettling occurrence adds to the continuing security challenges in parts of Kwara State, where residents have recently reported increasing banditry and attacks. Authorities have urged community members to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies promptly.
