The peaceful communities of Woro and Nuku in the Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State have been plunged into mourning following a brutal massacre that claimed the lives of at least 75 residents.
The attack, which occurred on the evening of Tuesday, February 3, 2026, marks a chilling shift in regional insecurity. Unlike previous incidents characterized by kidnapping for ransom or banditry, this assault was described by officials as a targeted execution of villagers who refused to adopt a “perverted” religious ideology.
A Stand for Faith
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq visited the grieving communities to assess the damage and offer condolences. During his visit, he revealed that the primary motive behind the carnage was the villagers’ steadfast refusal to bow to the extremist doctrines of the invaders.

”This village refuses to succumb to a perverted form of Islamic doctrine,” the Governor stated. “They are abiding by their Islamic faith and refuse any alteration. Because they stood firm, they were attacked and massacred. This was not a robbery; it was a pure massacre.”
Federal Response and Security Crackdown
In response to the killings, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reportedly ordered an immediate security crackdown in the border regions of Kwara State. Security agencies are currently on a manhunt for the perpetrators, who fled into the surrounding forests following the attack.
While the official death toll stands at 75, local sources fear the number may rise as search parties continue to recover bodies from the outskirts of the affected villages.
