After several intense days of coordinated efforts from security agencies and government representatives, 38 individuals abducted from the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State have been safely released. The announcement was made on Sunday, November 23, by Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
Governor AbdulRazaq credited the successful rescue to the hands-on leadership and personal intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. The President had immediately reacted to the crisis by postponing his scheduled attendance at the G20 summit in South Africa to focus on restoring security in Kwara and Kebbi states. Under his orders, intensified security deployments were made, including the dispatch of four new tactical teams to the affected areas.
The Governor expressed immense gratitude to President Tinubu for spearheading the national efforts that led to the safe recovery of the abductees. He also acknowledged the key roles played by the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Services, the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Intelligence Agency, and the Nigeria Police. Collective action by these agencies, supported by community leaders, religious bodies, and residents of Kwara, was instrumental in this positive outcome.
This successful rescue brings relief and renewed hope to the community after the tragic attack on the church, marking a significant step in the government’s ongoing fight against insecurity and banditry in the region.
