K1 Formally Bids for Awujale Throne Amid Lineage Scrutiny

Renowned Fuji musician Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde Anifowose, popularly known as K1 de Ultimate, has thrown his hat into the ring for the vacant Awujale of Ijebuland throne by submitting a formal letter of intent to the Fusengbuwa Ruling House. ​ Otunba Lateef Owoyemi, chairman of the house whose turn it is to nominate the next monarch following the passing of Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona from the Anikilaiya Ruling House, confirmed receipt of the December 3, 2025, letter addressed to him at Agunsebi Quarters, Ijebu-Ode. ​ K1 must now complete a detailed form proving his direct descent from the Fusengbuwa lineage, tracing back to Oba Jadiara as claimed in his submission.

K1, born March 3, 1957, asserts full eligibility under Ijebu customary law and Ogun State chieftaincy regulations, positioning himself as a bona fide prince with over five decades of cultural advocacy for Ijebu, Yoruba, and Nigerian heritage through music. ​ His accolades include Mayegun of Yorubaland (2020), Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) in 2022, and Olori Omo-Oba plus Otunba Afidipotemole of Akile Ijebu in 2023, the last conferred by the late Awujale himself. ​ This high-profile entry into a contest that has already screened over 30 aspirants, including figures like Dr. Adekunle Olubola Hassan, amplifies public intrigue in the succession race. ​

The Fusengbuwa Ruling House, comprising eight lineages descended from HRM Awujale Fusengbuwa (1790-1819) and historically producing 25 Awujales from its Ile Nla Agunsebi base, emphasizes unity and legitimacy amid past internal clarifications on representation. ​ Owoyemi has urged calm as proceedings advance under government oversight to ensure transparency, with no crown for sale—only for a rightful candidate. ​ K1’s bid marks a pivotal moment blending artistry, prestige, and tradition in Yorubaland’s revered chieftaincy process. ​
