The quest for justice in the brutal slaying of Prince Ademola Akinloye has taken a massive leap forward. The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the arrest of nine suspects linked to the August 2024 killing of the royal, who was the son of the Ajiran of Agungi, Oba Tijani Akinloye.
Breakthrough in a High-Profile Cold Case
Prince Ademola was ambushed and gunned down on August 26, 2024, along Chevron Drive, a high-traffic area near Ebano Supermarket. The brazen nature of the daylight assassination sent shockwaves through the Agungi and Ajah communities, leaving residents in a state of perpetual fear.
The breakthrough came following an intensive intelligence-led operation by the Command’s tactical squad. Reports indicate that:
- Two suspects were quietly apprehended in early February 2026.
- Seven additional suspects were swooped upon by tactical officers on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.
A Trail of Blood: Links to 2023 Murder
The investigation has peeled back layers of a deeper criminal conspiracy. Police sources suggest that several of the detained individuals are also primary suspects in the April 18, 2023, murder of Sheriff Salami in the Moba community of Ajah. This link suggests a pattern of organized violence operating within the Lekki-Ajah axis.
Royal Family and Community Leaders Demand Transparency
The Ojomu Royal Family, led by Oba Tijani Adetunji Akinloye, has broken its silence, affirming their cooperation with law enforcement. In a stern public notice, the family emphasized that these were not random acts of violence but targeted killings that must be met with the full weight of the law.
Prominent community leader and businessman, Bashir Fakorede, lauded the police for reopening the case. He dismissed narratives suggesting the violence was a mere “land dispute,” calling such claims a dangerous distraction from the criminal nature of the homicides.
”This is about the sanctity of life,” Fakorede stated. “We urge a swift and transparent investigation to ensure that those who believe they can kill with impunity are proven wrong.”
While the Lagos State Police spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, has yet to issue a formal press briefing, the atmosphere in Agungi is one of cautious optimism as the community awaits the suspects’ arraignment.
