The Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Alagbon, Lagos, is currently investigating serious allegations of extortion and human rights violations leveled against one of its officers, Inspector Kalu. The probe was initiated following a petition and a viral tweet accusing the officer of such misconduct.
Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Margaret Ochalla promptly directed the CP X-Squad to investigate. Inspector Kalu and a Point of Sale (POS) agent were subsequently arrested. During interrogation, Inspector Kalu admitted there had been a prior report against the petitioner for allegedly terrorizing the community. He also confessed to identity theft, providing evidence, and was granted bail to allow further investigation, scheduled to continue the following Monday.
The POS agent revealed that the complainant had initially requested and received ₦4 million in cash, which was later left with her by the complainant without further explanation. Due to the intervention of AIG Ochalla and a commitment to transparency and justice, the full amount was recovered and returned to the complainant.
Inspector Kalu is now undergoing an Orderly Room Trial, facing disciplinary action for the allegations. The FCID leadership has reassured the public of its firm stance against corruption and unprofessional conduct within the police force, encouraging citizens to report any police misconduct through proper channels.
