F.C.T.Abuja-The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially released the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2026 governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun States, setting the stage for a critical electoral cycle in the Southwest region.
According to a release by Shaibu Abdulganiyu, the governorship election in Ekiti State is slated for Saturday, June 20, 2026. Political parties eyeing the governorship seat in Ekiti will conduct their primaries between October 20 and November 10, 2025, a crucial period for selecting their flagbearers.
For Osun State, the governorship election will hold on Saturday, August 8, 2026. Prospective candidates and their parties in Osun will engage in their primary elections from November 24 to December 15, 2025.
While the specific details of other electoral activities, such as the publication of voters’ register, commencement of campaigns, and submission of candidates’ lists, are yet to be fully released by INEC, this initial announcement provides a clear roadmap for political stakeholders and electorates in both states.
