
In a strategic move to ensure smooth electoral processes, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, along with Commission members, convened with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) today to finalize preparations for several upcoming elections.
The high-level meeting focused on critical areas including:

1.Finalizing logistics and operational plans for the November 2025 Anambra State governorship election, a pivotal contest in the Southeast region.
2.Coordinating arrangements for pending bye-elections across various states to fill vacant legislative seats.
3.Planning the resumption of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise nationwide, aimed at updating and expanding the voter register ahead of future polls.
4.Initiating preliminary preparations for the 2026 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections, which are essential for local governance.
Prof. Yakubu emphasized the importance of meticulous planning and collaboration to uphold the integrity and credibility of Nigeria’s electoral processes. The meeting also reviewed security measures, voter education strategies, and the deployment of technological innovations to enhance transparency.
This gathering underscores INEC’s commitment to delivering free, fair, and credible elections as Nigeria approaches a crucial electoral calendar.
