While on patrol duty early on Wednesday morning, a member of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) was struck by a truck and killed.
Along the Abeokuta-Sagamu junction expressway, the truck driver also gravely injured five other agency employees.
The truck driver, who was now on the run, collided with the TRACE officers and their patrol car, causing the car to sustain damage.
During the opening session of the capacity-building training workshop for TRACE officers at the Valleyview hall at the Government House, Oke Igbein, Abeokuta, Ogun State, the corps commander, Seni Ogunyemi, announced the information.
He claimed that while the injured had been transferred immediately to a hospital for treatment, the police had taken control of the situation.
Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele who declared open the workshop condoled TRACE, and the families of the victims of the incident.
She stated that the state administration was aware of the difficulties TRACE was facing in carrying out their responsibilities, including abuse from the general public and hate speech from individuals detained for traffic offenses.
The deputy governor warned dignitaries and members of the public to stop calling top government officials whenever they were arrested for flouting traffic regulations.
