Owerri, Imo State – The Imo State Police Command has confirmed the safe rescue of fifteen students from Eminent Scholars Imperial Academy, Onitsha, Anambra State, after their school bus broke down in the Amuro area of Okigwe, Imo State. The students were returning from taking their rescheduled Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations when the incident occurred on May 16, 2025.

Initial reports circulating online suggested a possible abduction, but the police have vehemently denied these claims.
According to a press release issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, the students and their accompanying staff arrived safely in Imo State for their examinations. The breakdown in a remote area with limited mobile network coverage caused a communication gap, leading to the spread of misinformation.
Police operatives, working with other security agencies, located the stranded students and escorted them to Owerri. The bus was repaired, and the students resumed their journey, arriving back in Onitsha on May 17, 2025, all in good health.
The Imo State Police Command has urged the public to verify information before sharing and commended concerned citizens for their prompt response.
