ILAWE-EKITI — The ancient kingdom of Ilawe-Ekiti, the administrative headquarters of Ekiti Southwest Local Government Area, has officially announced the appointment of Princess Fadekemi Folasade Alabi Mbah as the new Regent of the town.
The proclamation follows centuries-old Yoruba traditions and customary laws governing royal successions. In accordance with the established norms of the kingdom, the first daughter of a deceased monarch steps onto the royal stool to oversee traditional and administrative affairs on a temporary basis following the passing of the king.
Princess Fadekemi’s interim leadership bridges the gap between the transition of the previous administration and the selection of a substantive male heir. The palace confirmed that she will wield administrative authority and hold the fort until the ruling houses and the kingmakers conclude the consultation processes required to select and crown a new prince as the next Alawe of Ilawe-Ekiti.
In a press statement issued to journalists locally, community leader ‘Dele Ojaomo expressed immense confidence in the newly appointed Regent. Congratulations and goodwill messages have continued to pour into the palace from indigenes, local stakeholders, and friends of the community, wishing the Regent a peaceful and prosperous interim reign.

”In line with the rich customs of our ancestors, the responsibility falls upon the first daughter to ensure there is no vacuum in the leadership of our land. We congratulate Regent Fadekemi Folasade Alabi Mbah as she takes on this sacred duty,” the statement read.
Historically regarded as one of Ekiti State’s prominent, first-class traditional stools, the leadership of Ilawe-Ekiti remains pivotal to the socio-political stability of the local government area. Traditional stakeholders have urged all sons, daughters, and residents of the town to extend their full cooperation, loyalty, and support to the new female Regent to ensure a peaceful transition period.
