Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company Partners with FCCPC to Resolve Consumer Complaints

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing consumer grievances concerning electricity services.

Adamu Abdullahi, the acting Chief Executive Officer of FCCPC, gave this assurance during the electricity consumer complaint resolution platform held in Lagos State on Saturday.

The forum aimed to tackle issues such as billing, metering, transformer, connection, and other consumer-related concerns within the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) area.

Abdullahi highlighted the commission’s objective to tackle a wide range of consumer issues effectively. He mentioned ongoing efforts, including a nationwide campaign sponsored by the MacArthur Foundation, to enhance consumer protection in electricity matters.

Abdullahi urged consumers to remain patient and cooperative as they work towards resolving numerous challenges.

Jolaoluwa Adewale, the Head of Governance and Regulatory at IKEDC, emphasized the crucial relationship between consumers and business success, reiterating the company’s commitment to resolving all issues promptly.

Adewale praised the FCCPC for organizing the forum and emphasized Ikeja Electric’s collaboration with regulators in addressing safety and metering issues.

Salami Afeez, the Area Inspecting Engineer for Ikeja at the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA), affirmed the agency’s partnership with FCCPC to fulfill their mandate.

He encouraged customers to report complaints promptly to ensure efficient communication for issue resolution.

During the forum, consumer Anthony Chukwuemeka expressed satisfaction with the initiative, emphasizing the importance of closer engagement with suppliers and regulators.

He shared his specific concern regarding delays in receiving a meter despite payment, echoing sentiments of others facing various electricity-related issues.

Meanwhile, the power supply situation nationwide has deteriorated since the beginning of the year, prompting the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, to summon chief executives of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, and the Managing Director of Transmission Company of Nigeria to address the worsening power supply situation across the country.
