FG Re-awards Ibadan–Ife–Ilesha Express Road Project to New Contractor

The Federal Government has officially terminated the contract with Kopek Construction Company for the reconstruction of the Ibadan–Ife–Ilesha Express Road due to unsatisfactory progress and delays. The road rehabilitation project, spanning the busy Southwestern corridor linking Oyo, Osun, and Ondo States, has now been re-awarded to CBC Global Civil & Building Construction Nigeria Limited, a multinational firm renowned for its successful delivery of large infrastructure projects across Nigeria and Africa.

Honorable Akin Alabi, House of Representatives member for Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency, confirmed in a recent statement that while the stretch from Iwo Road to Asejire—which lies within his constituency—remains a key concern for residents and road users, the Federal Government treats the expressway as a unified project beyond constituency or state boundaries.

The new contractor, CBC Global, will implement cutting-edge concrete pavement technology aimed at providing a durable surface that is expected to last approximately 50 years without major rehabilitation. This approach mirrors the successful strategy employed on the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, promising long-term quality and durability.

Work is slated to begin from the Osun State end of the expressway. Nevertheless, Hon. Alabi is actively negotiating with the contractor to initiate palliative repairs on the worst sections within his constituency, offering immediate relief to commuters and motorists. These efforts are expected to commence shortly.

The lawmaker expressed heartfelt appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for prioritizing this critical infrastructure project and for the steadfast commitment to its completion. He assured constituents of his continuous updates on the project’s progress and reiterated his dedication to ensuring the full benefits of the federal infrastructure renewal reach his people.

The Ibadan–Ife–Ilesha Expressway is a vital commercial artery in the region, heavily used for the movement of goods and people across three states, underscoring the significance of the project for regional economic growth and inter-state connectivity.
