Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has firmly denied rumors of his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), labeling the allegations as baseless and politically motivated. In a statement issued by his media adviser, Paul Ibe, Atiku reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP, calling himself a “committed, genuine, and loyal member” of the party.

The rumors, which originated from an unverified Facebook page, suggested that Atiku had left the PDP to join another political party ahead of the 2027 elections. However, his media team dismissed these claims as a “calculated attempt to mislead the public and sow discord among Nigerians.” The statement accused “desperate political operatives” of orchestrating this smear campaign to create confusion.
Atiku emphasized his dedication to strengthening the PDP and its democratic ideals, urging Nigerians to disregard the false reports. He also reiterated his focus on forming a united opposition coalition to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next election. His team condemned the rumors as “fake news” and a “vile ploy” aimed at undermining his leadership and credibility.
The statement concluded by assuring supporters that Atiku remains steadfast in his commitment to the PDP and the aspirations of Nigerians for better governance.
