‘I remain dedicated to supporting Tinubu,’ Sanwo-Olu dispels rift rumours

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday, publicly reaffirmed his support and loyalty to President Bola Tinubu following recent speculations of a rift between the two political figures.

Taking to his official handle on X.com, the governor shared a message of solidarity after accompanying Tinubu as he departed Lagos following the Eid-el-Kabir holidays.

“Today, I accompanied His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and saw him off as he departed Lagos following the Sallah break.

“I remain dedicated to supporting his efforts and policies, which aim to bring real and lasting change to the lives of Nigerians.

“I wish him safe travels and success in all his engagements. As always, Lagos stands ready to play its part in building the Nigeria we all hope for,” Sanwo-Olu wrote.

The governor’s post comes after a member of the Governance Advisory Council in Lagos State, Chief Muraina Taiwo, addressed reports of tensions between the two leaders.

Speaking on Sunday, Taiwo confirmed that the matter had been resolved behind closed doors.

“Everything they are saying, God has resolved it. The father (Tinubu) has drawn his son (Sanwo-Olu) closer, and the son has also hugged his father; we are now one in Lagos State,” Taiwo said.

Sanwo-Olu was also among dignitaries who visited Tinubu at his Lagos residence during the Eid-el-Kabir festivities, a move that was widely interpreted as a sign of reconciliation.

Public speculation about a strained relationship began after a viral video showed Tinubu seemingly snubbing Sanwo-Olu during the inauguration of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway on May 31.

The governor’s absence at the reconstruction of the Epe-Ijebu Ode deep seaport access road in early June further fueled the rumours.

However, recent developments, including Sanwo-Olu’s presence at Tinubu’s Sallah engagements and his reaffirmation post, suggest that the political alliance between the two leaders remains intact.
