Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has recounted a harrowing experience he allegedly faced after winning the 2024 governorship election, revealing that he found a dead vulture on his bed when he wanted to sleep.
The revelation was made during a recent event, where the governor spoke about his fight against cultism in Edo State, ValidViewNetwork reports.
THE INCIDENT
Okpebholo said after the election was won, he was exhausted and wanted to sleep, but when he entered his bedroom, he found a dead vulture on his bed.
He described the incident as part of a spiritual attack linked to his administration’s crackdown on cultism. The governor said he had been warned about the dangers of confronting cult groups, but he was determined to rid the state of the menace.
THE FIGHT AGAINST CULTISM
Okpebholo said his administration had taken a firm stance against cultism, which had terrorised communities across Edo State for years.
He said the vulture was a symbol of the spiritual dimension of the battle, and that he had been protected by God, ValidViewNetwork reports.
WHY IT MATTERS
The governor’s account is a window into the intersection of politics, spirituality and security in Nigeria.
Cultism is not merely a criminal enterprise. It is a system of belief and belonging that has deep roots in some communities. Confronting it requires not only police action but also a recognition of its spiritual and cultural dimensions.
For Okpebholo, the vulture was a sign that the battle was real—and that he had survived it. The vulture is dead. The governor is alive. And the fight against cultism in Edo continues.
